'High-Class Kavalan Solist with Various Aromas, a Complex and Exquisite Savor, Consistency'
'Product Thrilling Whisky Mania With the Tropical Flavor'
The term 'high-class' has different meanings depending on different people. It means something well-made for those who lack experience and knowledge. On the contrary, it also means a level of admiration for those who recognize and understand it. In this sense, Kavalan Solist Cask Strength Ex-bourbon Cask is a high-class whisky. Even if not sure of totally understanding the master distiller's intention, the flavor composition is complex, sophisticated, and evenly consistent despite the various components in the whisky.
Despite its complexity, the review describes the composition as intuitively as possible. Also, the name of tropical fruits might be inaccurate due to a lack of experience.
The strong caramel scent rises right after opening, which soon fades away. The accentuated floral scent on the alcohol shows up with peach, custard, and tropical fruits(rambutan, lychee). Except for the caramel, the smells can be picked up steadily, regardless of the tiredness of the nose.
It is better to explain the whisky's flavor through three stages. One is at the mouth, another is during swallowing, and the other is at the finish. In the first phase, one can taste the fruit syrup or honey water with a tickling spiciness. The notes of 'peach-apricot-tropical fruit come with the sweetness. The spiciness stands out and comes as a light warmth, dulling the mouth. Although the spiciness hits differently upon people, it lessens soon enough.
What is noteworthy is the second phase, swallowing. There are no unique flavors that one can find during swallowing in average whisky. Because most essential flavors can be picked up in the mouth and at the finish, the swallowing process is just a bridge between the two. However, the Kavalan Solists put another layer in the swallowing, consisting of a combination of high acidity and tropical flavor(perhaps mangosteen). The fact that there is something between the taste and the finish makes the whisky more complex and sophisticated. Unfortunately, the tropical flavor in the swallowing is unidentifiable due to a lack of personal experience. The taste is named 'mangosteen' with the help of a chef, but it could seem different according to other people.
The combination flavor of tropical fruit, smoky cigarettes, and custard comes up at the finish(3rd phase). The smokiness comes as exotic and new. As sipping increases, some scents are accentuated from tropical&peach to custard.
Although the Kavalan Solist has a higher ABV(57.1%) than the Kavalan Classic(40%), it is less tiring and has more various flavors and consistency. Kavalan distillery shows and proves its competence with this sophisticated and well-made whisky. The whisky causes the desire to buy all the other Solist line up. But the whisky is not recommendable for people who don't like the tropical fruit flavors.
