'New Look of Glenmorangie Different from Lasanta or Quinta Ruban'
'Flavors that Arouse Bitter Brown Dessert'
Glenmorangie The Nectar D'or is recommendable for those who prefer bitter desserts. The whisky consists of some scents(brown dessert, orange, flower, light alcohol) and flavors(meringue, spice, nutmeg, bitterness of ginger).
Right after opening, the brown dessert's smell immediately comes out and quickly fades away. The scents of citrus(orange zest), light flower, and mild alcohol take the center. The floral aroma reveals its presence after the nose gets used to that of citrus. When swirling the glass, a mild dessert scent arouses, which could go unnoticed. The alcohol makes trying the scents comfortable and the intensity of the overall smell is mild to moderate.
The taste starts the sweetness and spiciness of meringue and trespasses nutmeg(spice mixed with almond and pepper) then reaches the bitterness of ginger. The spiciness lasts until the finish. It doesn’t prick but rather warms up the mouth and solar plexus. In my novice years to whisky, I used to describe the taste that presumably derived from sweetness, nutmeg, and ginger notes as mocha or tart. The details are hard to appreciate with more drams since it feel like all the tastes get combined as one(similar to that of a bitter dessert with mild sweetness and nuts).
Notes of spiciness, a hint of ginger, and citrus can be appreciated at the finish. Also, a soft vanilla scent comes out after tasting, which harmonizes with citrus(orange) and flower aromas.
In terms of depth and variety, it is hard to say that the Nectar D'or has deeper depth or more diverse variety than Lasanta or Quinta Ruban. I used to think of the Nectar to be of a better quality but it doesn’t seem like it anymore. For those who prefer bitter tasting whisky, the Nectar might be in the first line of choice, however, for others, I would recommend it to be the very last purchase out of Lasanta, Quinta Ruban, and Nectar D’or. The whisky is still worth buying because a linkage to Sauternes wine gives it a rare value and a new color of Glenmorangie can be explored.
