'The Gentle Harmony of Light Fruits, Toffee, and Floral Aromas'
'Intuitive and Comfortable Whisky with the Taste composed from Toffee to Malt'
After opening, three scents arouse in the whiskey; light fruits (apple, pear, orange), toffee, and flower. Starting from the fruit, aromas of the whisky alter. As soon as the nose becomes tired, a toffee scent pops up, with the fruit's smell subsiding. Then, flowers take over the center of the smell. When the nose gets finally exhausted, the flower smells turn faint to discern. Fortunately, the fainted smell comes back as olfactory senses recover.
The taste of the whisky begins and ends with toffee. Other flavors cling to the toffee, but it is hard to discern individually due to their weak presence. As the larger surface of the mouth is exposed to the liquid, the spiciness increases and vice versa. Getting used to the toffee, the flavor of light toffee pops up.
In terms of harmony of flavors and casualness to drink, The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve is better than 12, in my personal opinion. Of course, Founder's Reserve lacks variety and depth of the longer aged whiskies. But The flavor is intuitive enough to understand and is comfortable enough to drink for those who are reluctant to try whisky.
Plus, there is almost no alteration of aroma and taste caused by tiredness when sipping. Aeration would help the whisky become even more smooth to drink as the spiciness would subside.
