Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has the scents of chocolate, mint, blood orange, and savor of baklava, the Turkish dessert. The flowing of aroma-taste-finish is intuitive and consistent. What's noteworthy is that the components of the overall flavor are perceptible despite the tiredness of the senses.
The strong mint-chocolate smell arouses right after opening and soon fades away. Then some scents take over the center (alcohol, blood orange, mint, and lightly-underlying chocolate). The proportion of scents is blood orange > mint > chocolate in ascending order. While enjoying the whisky, most of the smell could be perceived even if the ratio gets reversed because of the compacted structure. When the orange smell grows small, a floral scent pops up. A hint of nuts and tart smells could also be perceived when the chocolate scent stands out. The strong alcohol continues for a time then a faint pepper note could be detected in it.
The same components are in the taste, especially, there is baklava savor. The taste of accentuated chocolate, moderate orange, and a little spice can be tasted at first sipping. Then the Turkish dessert flavor(Baklava) can be picked up through the texture and sweetness as the whisky spreads in the mouth. Baklava is a layered pastry dessert made of filo pastry, filled with chopped nuts, and sweetened with syrup or honey. One can taste the sweet syrup and crispy texture of the dessert. This whisky has a similar taste to baklava. Although little spice slowly dulls the mouth, nothing changes because of it.
Most features in the taste stays present to the finish. Because of the chocolate and orange flavor in the taste, orange and flower take over the smell.
In short, the whisky has a solid structure and consistency of flavor, with chocolate, mint, orange, and dessert note. The essential features are the linkage with Glenmorangie The Original, reasonable price, moderate appeal, and depth. As the whisky is desserty and sweet, it is comfortable enough to sip. However, it is not recommendable for those who find the dessert flavor uncomfortable.
