-Tasting Review

'Whisky worth experiencing, despite of the unreasonable price.'

'Bitter-sweet toffee-mint candy flavored unlike traditional sherry whisky'

It is appropriate to describe the Glenmorangie 19's taste as bitter-sweet toffee-mint candy. Different from the 18, which has various flavors, the 19 features a coherent composition of smell-taste-finish and a slight flavor alteration. For some reason, it has low profile on selling rank, but it is worth buying for those who prefer the distinctive taste.

The scent of 19 is like that of the floral base, painting freshness of mint and eucalyptus, put on diluted rum. Floral aroma and fainted rum smell keep the balance, and the scents of vanilla & butter emerge briefly and quickly disappear. None of the components stands out, and each harmonizes as one. The overall smell doesn't come as high-class, but the slight alteration is the merit.

The flavor of 19 is similar to a bitter-sweet mint candy with a slight toffee taste. The bitter taste, like one in rum, lingers to the finish. Also, one can feel the weak toffee with sweetness of sugar. Slight spiciness is combined with a mint flavor, which feels refreshing.

The finish is unnecessary to describe because it's the same as the taste. The whisky has a creamy texture and unusual taste compared to other sherry whiskies.

Unfortunately, there are shortcomings. The overall flavor does not match up to the price of 250K and 19 years of maturation. It is no doubt that the whisky has a unique flavor, but it isn't deep or sophisticated. Most of all, the taste of mint candy is not for all, which is the main reason of ranking low on the selling list.

In sum, the Glenmorangie 19 years finest reserve has a bitter-sweet mint candy flavor, and it is for those who like the unusual or diverse tastes. Because the whisky is not cost-effective, buying one at the duty-free store is recommended.

Nose : Resh, clean, zesty aromas of mint, eucalyptus and hints of sugar cane, are woven with candy, peaches and vanilla

Palate : A smooth and creamy texture brings with it the subtle sweetness of apple, apricot and tangy oranges, alongside toffee, butter candy and menthol

Finish : Mint toffee mingles with oak tannins and lingering suggestion of bittersweet citrus fruit
