‘Various Flavors behind the Fresh Scent Associating Lightness’

‘Refined Glenmorangie Being Put on Many Features'

It seems that Glenmorangie launches its products for people to explore the process of flavor development starting from entry whisky. Based on the Original(10Y) taste, a distinctive feature is added to the upper series, such as Lasanta(12Y), Quinta Ruban(14Y), and Nectar D’or. But, Glenmorangie 18Y goes further than just adding flavor.

Unlike the products mentioned above, which keep the original(10Y) features and add a distinctive layer, The 18Y refines the original and puts many features on it. Therefore, it seems superficial to describe this whisky only using the nose, palate, and finish criteria.

The whisky is hard to describe with only using one phrase. Many Flavors can be picked up, such as light chocolate, freshness associated with Glenfiddich 12Y, pear and many fruits, flowers, mild sweetness akin to maple syrup, a hint of bitterness, and spiciness. The original(10Y) flavor can also be tasted after taste buds are tired. Unfortunately, all of the flavors couldn’t be picked up at once.

It is definitely worth paying for, and it seems to be better than Kavalan Classic Single Malt. Compared to the Dalmore 18Y, they are equivalent for variety, but Glenmorangie 18Y is lighter.

Depending on the degree of how drunk one gets, the different flavors can be picked up, from freshness, to light dessert or the original(10Y). The image of overall taste change is not that the existing flavors are turned into another, but that hidden flavors are revealed.

For some people, the whisky might be uncomfortable, having many layers of flavor. It is not for the people who don’t like Glenmorangie Original. But I am sure that this whisky is worth paying for, for the people who value taste experiences. In my personal opinion, the original is for the daily, Nectar D'or for sweetness and dessert, and 18Y for complexity and lightness.

-Tasting Notes

Nose : rather light, with the distillery’s typical fruitiness. Yellow plums and apricots mainly. Also gooseberries and oranges. Hints of vanilla cake, honey and almonds. Floral notes too (orange blossom, geranium).

Palate : medium, oakier, with citrus peel and honey.

Finish : This is a light but full-flavoured whisky with nice (almost tropical) fruity notes. It may be designed for a wide audience, but I think this is very good for the money.
